D.K. Stewart Sextet Honors Armed Services with “Live for the Troops” CD Release,
PORTLAND, OR, July 25, 2012 – Renowned blues pianist and singer D.K. Stewart, a Hall of Fame Cascade Blues Association Muddy Award winner, bandleader and U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran, and his all-star sextet celebrate the release of a limited-edition CD, “Live for the Troops,” Sunday, August 5, 2012, at the Pearson Air Museum at Fort Vancouver, 1115 E. Fifth St., in Vancouver, Wash., from 4-7 p.m. The event is open to the public and proceeds are being donated to the USO/Northwest Region
“We were greeted at the event with a large pro stage and incredible sound equipment, plus an audio engineer who knew what he was doing,” said Stewart. “Halfway through the show we found out we were being recorded with a state-of-the-art, 24-channel digital mixing board. Out of the 24 tunes recorded that day, over half were free of the noise from jets, helicopters and autos, and had the potential to be mixed into a viable digital format.”
The resulting CD, “Live for the Troops,” was produced from that afternoon outdoor session, and has been released through military channels throughout the U.S. and various offshore military bases and facilities for the benefit and enjoyment of deployed personnel. Proceeds from the CD go directly to the Madigan Foundation, the USO and other worthy tax-exempt foundations.
“This is an incredible project,” said event sponsor Mark Kandianis, of the open-to-the-public event at Pearson Air Museum. “We wanted to do something to pay tribute to our fighting men and women. The D.K. Stewart Sextet have created a brilliant CD that truly captures the band’s live energy and showmanship, and this event will celebrate its official release.”
Also on hand during the afternoon event and concert will be an assortment of aircraft and pilots, a virtual-reality training lab, and other activities.
